Canada’s Chartered Directors
The Directors College is pleased to present Canada’s Chartered Directors. The graduates listed below have completed The Chartered Director Program, an intensive individual examination, and have met the other requirements to become a Chartered Director (C.Dir.)
The Directors College and the Collège des administrateurs de sociétés (CAS) of Université Laval have a reciprocal agreement, whereby their respective designations – Chartered Director (C.Dir.) and Administrateur de sociétés certifié (ASC) are recognized as equivalent.

With an impressive track record in both the corporate and charitable sectors, Marnie Spears has played an integral role in making the firm Canada’s largest and most successful fundraising consultancy.
As President & CEO, Marnie has expanded KCI’s client base, developed new client services and most recently established KCI’s Executive Search Department. She was also instrumental in the creation of KCI’s Philanthropic Trends Quarterly© publication and chairs its Advisory Board. Prior to her appointment as KCI’s President and CEO, Ms Spears served as the firm’s President and Chief Operating Officer from 1995 to 2002. Under Marnie’s leadership, KCI has experienced unprecedented growth, further solidifying its position as Canada’s leading fund development firm.
With expertise in governance and leadership coaching, human resource management, complex problem resolution, in addition to fund raising strategies, Ms. Spears provides value-added counsel to KCI clients in all sectors. She is a sought after coach and advisor to institutional leaders and senior development professionals across the country and, as a leading expert in Canadian philanthropy, she is a sought after speaker and presenter in Canada, the U.S. and Europe.
Ms. Spears’ insight and foresight in fund raising, institutional leadership, and governance has been strengthened by her diverse community and civic activities, including Chair, McMaster University Foundation (1994 - present); Chair, Board of Directors, Royal Botanical Gardens, (2003-2004), Member, Board of Directors, Royal Botanical Gardens (1997 – 2005); Member, Board of Directors, Hamilton Utilities Corporation (2000 – present) and Chair, Human Resources and Governance Committee (2006 – present); Member, Board of Directors, Industry-Education Council, Hamilton-Wentworth Region (1992-1996); Vice-Chair and Member, Business Advisory Centre and Greater Hamilton Technology Enterprise Centre (1985 - 1994); Vice-Chair and Member, Board of Governors, Mohawk College (1980-1986); Member, Board of Directors, Hamilton Community Foundation (1994-1999); National Advisory Board Member-The Salvation Army (2009 to present); and a member of Governor General David Johnston’s Philanthropy and Volunteerism Steering Committee (2010 to present). A graduate of The Director’s College, Ms. Spears received her Chartered Director’s designation in February 2006.
